Election 2017 - Dave Wallace
Dave Wallace is running for Hamilton Township Trustee in this fall's election.
When I ran for office almost four years ago, I made several commitments. I promised to improve & maintain community safety, restore fiscal accountability and protect the taxpayer’s interests. That’s why the theme of my reelection campaign is “promises made and promises kept.”
We can proudly report that fiscal accountability has been restored. When I was first elected, Ohio’s State Auditor had just placed the township in fiscal emergency. Our books were in total disarray and we quickly instituted important changes and made the necessary corrections to allow the fiscal emergency to be removed - in record time!
During the process of regaining fiscal accountability and getting a firm grip on our finances, we were able to permanently cut taxes while at the same time improving Township services. That’s money that belongs in your pocket and not the Township’s bank account for bureaucrats to spend.
Among the many fixes that we put into place to “right the ship’ was the implementation of professional accounting software, the production of monthly financial reports, monthly public reporting of results and a complete system of financial checks and balances. In addition, I led the fight to put the Township’s checkbook and financial data online – for all to see. We are now statewide leaders in fiscal transparency.
The second area where we made great improvement was community safety. Over the past three years, the township has invested over $1.8 million in road improvement projects. The township has improved our fire department with the hiring of a new fire chief, a full-time fire/zoning inspector, the purchase of a new fire engine along with updating numerous safety items for our firefighters and paramedics. Our police officers are now equipped with an updated vehicle fleet, new rifles, and more educational opportunities for professional development. This is all being led by the new police chief that we hired last year.
Finally, we protected the taxpayers by being good stewards of their tax dollars. This year we switched our Township employee health insurance to a Health Savings Account just like many in the private sector currently use. By exiting a horribly overpriced government consortium health plan, the employees are able to maintain great health insurance while saving the taxpayers over $300,000 annually. In addition, we are making many improvements at Testerman Park by installing a new playground, refurbishing tennis & basketball courts, and completing a renovation of the concession stand.
None of this could have been done without your help. So I want to, again, thank you for supporting and trusting me over the past 4 years. I never really thought I would ever serve as an elected official. However, I saw problems in our Township and I knew I could help. Please do me a favor and spread the word to your friends and family that I need their support to continue serving as your Township Trustee.
I appreciate your trust & support and look forward to continuing my service to you as your Hamilton Township Trustee.
